Created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at the Walt Disney Studios, Mickey is an anthropomorphic mouse famous for his red shorts, large yellow shoes, and white gloves, making him one of the most easily recognizable characters worldwide. Mickey made his first appearance in a test screening short called “Plane Crazy”, before officially debuting in the groundbreaking sound cartoon “Steamboat Willie” in 1928.
Over the years, Mickey has appeared in more than 130 films such as “The Band Concert” (1935), “Brave Little Tailor” (1938), and “Fantasia” (1940). While he was predominantly featured in short films, Mickey also starred in a few feature-length productions. Notably, ten of Mickey’s cartoons were considered for the prestigious Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, and he even clinched the award in 1942 for the animated short “Lend a Paw”. In 1978, Mickey earned the distinction of being the first cartoon character to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
