ARMA, stylized as ARMA, is a series of first-person tactical military shooters initially developed for Microsoft Windows. Renowned for its emphasis on realism and simulation, the franchise combines large-scale military operations spanning expansive terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The series began with its first installment in 2006, culminating with the latest release in 2013. Subsequent titles have expanded their availability to platforms including Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS.
The inaugural game, titled ARMA: Armed Assault—also known as ARMA: Combat Operations in the United States—launched on Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, followed by releases across Europe in February 2007 and in the United States in May 2007. It utilized the Real Virtuality 2 engine.
ARMA 3, the series’ latest standalone entry, was released for Windows on September 12, 2013, powered by the Real Virtuality 4 engine. Prior to its official launch, it was available to the public through Steam’s Early Access program starting March 5, 2013. Between late 2015 and early 2016, ARMA 3 also became available on Linux and Mac platforms through earlier versions, with the goal of eventually updating those versions to match the Windows release.
